What Edwards Knew

There's one thing about Edwards that is indisputable. Edwards knew when to be quiet and not trash his opponents. He knew it during the torturous campaigning last fall and winter and he ended his campaign with his dignity in tact -- no small thing in that contentious free-for-all.

He knew when NOT to say something. He knew when to say nothing. He knew others' nasty words would stick to them like dog poop sticks to your shoe. He knew how to take the high road.

You could argue that his greatest virtue was retaining his virtue -- he was the last virgin at the prom, untainted and still waiting for someone to take him home before curfew time. In that way, he was not only the obvious choice, but perhaps the only choice.
