Slimming: Americans Say "I Give Up"

They call it slimming in the UK, or maybe just in old British novels. We call it going on a diet or losing weight. Whatever you call it, looks like Americans have decided they just don't care as much as they used to.
The number of people on a diet - 26 percent of all women in the United States and 16 percent of men for the year ending February 2008 - is the lowest it's been in more than two decades, according to a soon-to-be-released survey.
Bad news that! We really need to think about it from a health and longevity perspective. So many preventable diseases can be linked to bad eating, no exercise and obesity! Hey Americans! Don't do yourselves in by this "I give up" attitude.

My personal theory is the aging baby boomers have decided they don't NEED to care about how they look since everyone around them in America looks fat ... it's the new normal. If you don't need to attract a mate (or are simply past all that), why bother? Why? Because it's not about looking sexy, it's about staying healthy and ALIVE for a few more decades!
