Decoration Day

Decoration Day was the original name for the holiday now known as Memorial Day. Decoration Day begin in 1868 to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the Civil War.

I think it's hard for anyone in our times to imagine fighting a Civil War within our own country -- North vs. South.

It must have been dreadful. And there are many documented "brother fighting against brother" accounts.

Being in Boston and imagining fighting friends and families in Atlanta, Raleigh, Greensboro -- seems unthinkable. But there was a lot at stake.
